DESCRIPTION:

 

This offer includes three private day tours with pick-up in the Reykjavik area (or Keflavik airport if necessary) and drop-off at your accommodation every evening.

 

This is a summertime offer and we use my super-jeep Land Rover Defender to explore the less beaten tracks in the Reykjanes Peninsula, Golden Circle area and South Coast.

These are all private tours. The tours are personally designed on your preferences.

Depending on your wishes, the tours can have adventure activities like glacier hike, caving in a lava tube, hiking, or be more a comfortable style trip enjoying the places without too much action.

Nota bene: the order of tours can change depending on weather conditions and pick up location. 

 

Tour 1.

​

We visit Reykjanes, the 'smoking' peninsula. Once left the capital area, we cross the peninsula from north to south driving an off-road less beaten track with fantastic landscapes. We reach the beautiful Krisuvik cliffs and drive a muddy track to get to an isolated lighthouse, good spot to have a cup of coffee.

We also drive a bit in the black sand surrounding the Kleifurvatn lake. We see hot-springs, craters, huge lava fields covered by moss and we can also visit the Leiðarendi lava tube, a lava cave formed by an eruption 4000 years ago!!!

Tour 2.

​

We visit the South Coast. We drive through a couple of small fishing villages and we reach the waterfalls of Urriðafoss, approaching along the way some cute Icelandic horses for some pictures. We stop then at Skogarfoss waterfalls where we will drive in a black sand desert reaching the ocean and driving in the sand, fantastic spot for the coffee break!

We stop then at Sólheimajökull glacier, an outlet of the fourth largest icecap in Iceland, where I can take you for an exciting hike on the glacier. The hike takes about three hours included the time to gear you up with crampons and harnesses. The hike is at a beginner level but it is anyway a bit demanding. It is otherwise also possible to walk to the glacier, admiring the icebergs in the glacier lagoon and the front of the outlet, without hiking on the glacier. It will be in both cases an incredible experience!   

On the return way we also stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfalls before heading back home to Reykjavik.

Tour 3.

​

We visit the area of the Golden Circle, but in a different way from most of the other companies. You will of course not miss the three big highlights of this famous tour, the Thingvellir National Park, the amazing Gullfoss waterfalls and the Geysir geothermal area, the only place in Iceland where it is possible to admire an active geysir erupting every 4/5 minutes; but, beside this, we will drive also in the highlands in a desertic area full of volcanos, lava rocks, moss, lakes, crossing a couple of rivers! If conditions are good we will drive up a shield volcano to have a beautiful view of the area. You will think to be in another planet.

Icelandic weather is often unpredictable and it can change many times in the same day. For your best comfort and safety we recommend you to wear warm clothes and take with you waterproof jacket and trousers, gloves and hat. It's very important, especially in winter time, to wear waterproof walking shoes with a good grip. Always take with you your swimming suite and a towel.
