The North Adventure four days tour
This tour will let you discover the wonderful places in the north of Iceland and at the same time also some less crowded area in the highlands. You will visit both very famous and unmissable destinations but also some hidden place that only locals know.... The first day we visit Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfalls and then drive north trhough the Kjölur road, an old track used in the past to travel from north to south crossing the highlands. We drive in between two amazing glaciers and beautiful mountains in a typical sand desert arriving suddenly at an hotspring area Hveravellir where in the past outlaws used to live. Here we have a lunch break and if you want a bath in the hot spring water. After a good coffee we carry on our trip reaching the north and driving on the road number one to Husavik, enchanting fishing village famous to be the best place in Iceland for whale watching. On the way we stop at Akureyri, the biggest town in the North of Iceland. Once in Husavik we reach your accommodation where you will spend the all three nights.
The second day will be a day dedicated to discover the local places around Husavik. We will hike to Botnsvatn, a nearby lake in a green area, we'll drive to Þeystareykir a closeby geothermal area where I will take you to a lava cave. Later we drive to a romantic coffee -house by the ocean where we can rest watching the sun going down while drinking something good. And what is better then finishing the day by the new geothermal seawater baths in Husavik? Amazing location...you can even spot a whale while you are in the hot water..... After the bath we go having dinner by a local in Husavik to complete the perfect icelandic local day!
The third day we visit two very famous sites in Iceland. Lake Myvatn and Asbyrgi canyon with the most powerful waterfall in Europe: Dettifoss and the mysterious lava formations at Hljoðaklettar! An incredible day where you will hike by this unique lake full of birds and lava rock formations. Myvatn area is an active volcanic area on the mid-atlantic ridge; we will visit a recent lava field formed by 1974-83 eruption, Leirhnjukur, we stop at crater Viti and at the coloured hot spring area of Namafjall.
The fourth day we start with the whale watching tour in the morning. Husavik is the most famous place to spot the humpback whales, dolphins, and sometimes even the blue whale, the biggest animal on the earth! The tour includes also a stop by some cliffs where you can spot the puffins, very cute seabirds who populate Iceland in summertime.
In the afternoon I will drive you to the Husavik airport and you will fly directly to Reykjavik in just 45 minutes! The most comfortable and fast way to go back saving hours of travelling!
